Mrs. Ruth A. Schalker
Holton-Mrs. Ruth A. Schalker, 87, Holton, died late Monday, Feb. 25, at her home.
Mrs. Schalker taught in Leavenworth schools five years and many years in Holton public schools before she retired.
She was born July 1, 1897, near Valley Falls, the daughter of Henry and Louisa Brand Abbuehl. She was graduated from the University of Kansas at Lawrence.
Mrs. Schalker was a member of Evangel United Methodist church, Columbian Chapter No. 152 of Order of Eastern Star, Jobs Daughters and University Women's Club, all at Holton.
She was married to Edwin Schalker Sept. 1, 1929. He died Oct. 7, 1942. A son Arnold Schalker, died June 10, 1979.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Marian Johnson, Burlington, Wash.; a son, Dr. David Schalker, Faribault, Minn.; a brother, Edward Abbuehl, Boca Raton, Fla.; and eight grandchildren.
Mrs. Schalker was cremated. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Inurnment will be in Holton Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American cancer Society and sent in care o Kansas State Bank, Holton.
