Prineville Funeral Home Book 3 p. 44 gives January 24, 1914 DOD.

Son of Andrew Joseph and Sarah Jane (Pruett) Abel. Married Mary Roach on Jan. 4, 1855, in Mahaska Co. Iowa. He served as a nurse in the Civil War. Discharged on Jan. 27 1865, he crossed the plains that same year with his wife and three sons: John A, age 11; James Buell, age 4; and James Ulysses, age 2; along with one milk cow, a saddle horse, oxen team, and wagon. While crossing the plains, he fought some Blackfoot Indians who had left their reservation in Idaho. Henry's family settled in southeastern Washington near his father and other family members who had come across the plains previously. His wife Mary died in December 1880 near Dayton, Washington. On June 6, 1883, Henry remarried a Margaret Clayton, who had crossed the plains in a covered wagon in 1865.
