Don was born on Oct. 15, 1933 in Hartley, the son of Ralph and Helen Larson Aanestad. He graduated from Augustana College in Rock Island. Don married Carol L. Hyde on Aug. 29, 1954 in Ottumwa.
He was a general insurance agent for Ohio National for 25 years, retiring in 1998. Don was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, the Kiwanis Club, Elmcrest Country Club, the Cedar Rapids Life Underwriters Association, and the Estate Planning Council. He enjoyed time spent with his family, golf and proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Carol; a son, Erik (Jane Ann) of Athens, Ohio; a daughter, Pamela (Michael) Rosenberg of Cedar Rapids; and a brother, David (Katherine) of Iowa City. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Elizabeth Rosenberg Smith, James and Adam Rosenberg and Hayley and Marshall Aanestad.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and son, Stephen.
Memorial services were held at 1 p.m. on Oct. 13, 2008 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church. Rev. Perry Fruhling and Rev. Nan Hirleman Trimpe officiated. Inurnment at Cedar Memorial Park Mausoleum Columbarium.
