A native of Lexington, he was a member of Barton Baptist Church. A retired senior instructor for the U.S. Army, he died November 30 at Keesler Air Force Base Hospital.
Survivors include his wife, Merle Ann Patterson Ables; a daughter, Brandi LeAnn Ables; a son, David Ables and three half brothers, Lynn (Davina) Ables, Tony (Ellen) Ables and Randy (Robin Ables, all of Lucedale; a host of nieces and nephews and a very special "daughter", Sherry (Richard) Verbeke of Hurley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Emmette & Kathryn Louise Ables.
Interment was held at Barton Cemetery with Rev. James Sanders and Rev. John Henry officiating the services.
Honorary pallbearers were Charles Pope, Alton Bang, Lemuel Hembree, Bill Richman, Ronnie Dungan, Orville Cochran and Chad Patterson.
