JERSEYVILLE -- Catherine Sarah Abbott, 88, died peacefully in her sleep at 9:20 p.m. Friday, March 30, 2001, at Jerseyville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
She was born Jan. 10, 1913, in Kane, a daughter of the late Edison Lynn and Hattie (Dunham) Abbott. She never married but lived and worked for several Jerseyville/Alton
area families caring for their homes and children.
She is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, James L. and Ruth Abbott of Jerseyville; two sisters, Edith Arlena Kincaid of Bethalto and Alice Mapes of Jacksonville; a sister-in-law, Marjorie Abbott of Jerseyville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Ethel Sprowell and Thelma Varble, and four brothers, Earl Edison Abbott, Alvin Abbott, Christy Lynn Abbott and Richard Abbott.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville, where funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday. The Rev. William Turner will officiate. She will be laid to rest in Oak Grove Cemetery in Jerseyville. Memorials may be given to Shriners Hospitals for Children, St. Louis Unit.
