Flossie R. Abell, 95, of Council Grove passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2009, at Morris County Hospital.

She was born August 1, 1913 to Will and Ella (Knox) Kitterman in Herington, KS.

Flossie married V.W. "A B" Abell on July 23, 1931. He preceded her in death on June 8, 1981. Flossie owned and operated Abell's Grocery Store, where she would let farmer's have credit on their grocery bill until their crops came in. During the 40's and 50's, kids knew to go to Flossie for free candy. She later was the receptionist at Kendall Funeral Chapel. She taught Sunday School at the Council Grove Christian Church, did volunteer work at the nursing home and helped deliver Meals on Wheels.

She loved to bowl and did so until she was 85. She bowled in the Senior League and bowled in many Senior Tournaments all over the country.

Ms. Abell was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church, and St. Rose Altar Society.

Survivors include: brother, Howard Kitterman, of Manhattan, KS, sister, Nellie Holdeman, of Mulvane, KS, nieces, nephews and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister and a son, Loren Abell.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, January, 17, 2008, at the St. Rose Catholic Church, with Father Edmond Kline officiating.

Burial will follow at Wilsey Cemetery.

A rosary will be held at 7:00 P.M. Friday, January 16th at Penwell-Gabel Flint Hills Chapel. Visitation will follow the rosary.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Council Grove Healthcare Center and flowers may also be sent to the funeral home.
