Cordia E. Abernathy, 85, of Morehouse, MO, died Oct. 15, 2003.
Born Sept. 8, 1918, in Morehouse, daughter of the late Charlie and Ardie Kirby Leffew, she was a resident of the Clearview Nursing Center in Sikeston and lived in Morehouse most of her life. She was a member of the First United Pentecostal Church in Morehouse and had worked with the Foster Grandparents Program.
On Nov. 3, 1934, in Morehouse, she married James Herbert Abernathy who preceded her in death on Sept. 1, 1965.
Survivors include: four daughters, Bonnie McCool, Carolyn Lane, Barbara Dodge, and Brenda Moore; four sons, Delbert Abernathy, Herbert Abernathy, Roger Abernathy, and Randy Abernathy; 18 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Two sisters, Opal Smith and Lillian Neal, also preceded her in death.
Visitation was at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Morehouse.
Services were conducted at the First United Pentecostal Church in Morehouse with the Rev. Jimmy Vent of Morehouse officiating.
Burial followed in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sikeston.
Pallbearers were her grandsons: Jim Abernathy, Gene Dodge, Herb Moore, Mark Abernathy, Brandon Abernathy and Austin Abernathy.
