Donald Merlin Aaberg, 75, of Bemidji died Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at the Northern Pines Good Samaritan Care Center in Blackduck.

Memorial Services will be 2:00 pm, Monday, November 17, 2008 at the Tenstrike Community Church in Tenstrike with Pastor Steve Pomp officiating under the direction of the Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji. Military honors will be given by the Ralph Gracie American Legion Post #14 of Bemidji.

Donald was born on November 22, 1932 in Starbuck, Minnesota, the son of Bennie and Beline (Brevig) Aaberg. He attended school in Starbuck before moving to Minneapolis, where he worked at a car dealership. He enlisted in 1951 and served in the United States Army and served in the Korean War. After being discharged from the Army he returned to Minneapolis where he worked at Flour City Iron and ornamental. He married Darlene Hayenga on March 26, 1955 in St. Paul Lutheran Church in Lowry, Minnesota. He served his apprenticeship, as a painter, under Al Tifer from 1955-1959. He then worked for Rainbow Decorators painting bulk tanks for standard oil from 1959-1966. In 1967 they moved to Bemidji, MN where he worked at Bemidji State University as a paint foreman. He retired in 1992, and in 1993 Donald and Darlene moved to their home on Gull Lake near Tenstrike, MN. Don enjoyed traveling with his wife and family and especially their trips to the Western parts of the United States and Canada. He also enjoyed vehicles of any size, shape and form; whether it be cars, tractors, snowmobiles or ATV's. He was especially proud of having learned to fly. Don was always an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing and trapping over the course of his lifetime.

He is survived by his wife, Darlene of Tenstrike; 5 children, Karin Aaberg of Tenstrike, MN, Cynthia (Mike) Dunkley of Coon Rapids, MN, Robert (Roxann) Aaberg of Bemidji, MN, Benita (Tom) Umhoefer of Eagan, MN, and William (Kerrie) Aaberg of Clancy, MT; 5 grandchildren, Thomas (TJ) Dunkley, Katie Dunkley, Bobbie Leigh Aaberg, Samuel Umhoefer and Maxwell
Umhoefer. And we can't forget his favorite dog, Woofie.

He was preceded in death by his parents Bennie and Beline Aaberg and 1 grandson, Nikoli Aaberg.
