ABSHIRE, BETTY LOU SPEARS, went to be with the Lord Sunday March 16, 2003 in her daughter's home in Petros. She was preceded in death by her husband Bobby Ray; and parents Wilson and Eva Spears of Elkorn City, Ky. She is survived by her five children Ann and Robert Broadus, Bobby Joe (Bubba) and Phyllis, Jesse and Joyce, Rita and Randy Turpin and Shay and Larry Philips, all of Petros; grandchildren, Robby, Amy, Jon, Leslie, Cody, Matthew, little Jesse and Rhyne (who was very special to her); great-grandchildren Hannah and Ethan Broadus; brothers Homer and Fayette Spears of Elkorn Creek, Ky., Bill and Lois Ratlif of Harless, Ky., and Herman and Mildren Spears of Elkorn City; sisters Pearl Lambert of Wilkesville, Ohio, Marie Spears of Milwood, Ky., and Newana Abshire of Danville, Ky.; special sisters Thelma Freeman and Velvet Estep, both of Fedscreek, Ky., and Adraine Thacker of Lick Greek, Ky. Interment was in the Petros Cemetery. [Morgan County News]
She was full blood Cherokee and her Father is currently Elder of the Eastern Band of the Cherokee Nation iN North Carolina as told to me on April 21, 2019 by her son Jesse.
