Carroll Abraham was a son of Woodson Wilson Thompson Abraham Sr. and Sarah Ann Lieusetta Holland. He was enumerated with his parents in the 1860 Franklin Co., IN, census; the 1870 Decatur Co., IN, census; and the 1880 Jasper Co., IL, census.

The Abraham family was related to the Jones and Harper individuals buried in this cemetery through the marriage of Joel Jones' son, Zillman Jones, to Louisa Abraham, Aug. 17, 1884. In fact, Carroll Abraham was Louisa's brother.

There are many Abraham burials in DeBord Cemetery across the highway east of the Harper Family Cemetery which has puzzled the Abraham family's historians down through the years concerning Carroll's burial place, and there is some disagreement between the various stories and childhood memories.

By combining portions of each individual scenario, a love story emerges that will tug on anyone's heartstrings and explains why Carroll Abraham is buried with the Harper and Jones family rather than across the road with his own relatives.

The one consistent detail among the various stories is that Carroll Abraham was engaged to be married when he died unexpectedly (some say from typhoid fever). However, time changed some other details saying, among other things, that he was engaged to a Harper girl, but this Harper girl was a Jones girl at the time -- Joel Jones' daughter, Lillice Jones.

Carroll died Oct. 30, 1881. Four years later, Lillice married Janiar Buenavista Harper, Dec. 18, 1885.

An interview several years ago with Lillice's grandson by a Jones / Abraham descendant revealed that, indeed, his grandmother was the girl engaged to Carroll Abraham in 1881 before her marriage to Mr. Harper in 1885.
