Deer Hunting Trip Fatal To Globe Resident

Funeral service for Rufus B. Abbott, 63, were held Monday at 2 p.m. from the Globe Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Elwood Wissman, pastor of St. Paul's Methodist Church, officiating.

Abbott died of natural causes late last week while he was on a deer hunting trip about 18 miles northeast of here. A sheriff's posse, headed by J. Hardt Hinton, chief deputy found the elderly an's body Friday near McMillen, a ghost town on Highway 60 northeast of Globe.

Discovery of the elderly man ended a 24-hour search that began when Abbott failed to return home on schedule. He left here last Thursday morning, telling friends he would return that evening.

Searchers found Abbott's car at McMillen.

Clyde Shute, coroner ex-officio said that Abbot apparently had suffered a heart attack. He said that an inquest was deemed unnecessary.

Born January 26, 1888, at Calhoun, Ga., Abbot came to Arizona in 1906. He was a watchman, and former mill operator, at Inspiration Consolidated Copper Co.

Pallbearers were Roy Toland, Clyde Shute, Wiley Giles, Charles Haines, Frank Fairchilds and Eugene Shute. Mrs. Hilda Mitchell, soloist sang "God Be With You Till We Meet Again," and "In the Sweet Bye and Bye," with Mrs. Nina Clemo playing the organ accompaniment.

Survivors include the wife, Nettie B.; one son Stanley M.; one daughter, Mrs. Flynn Brewton; a brother, Obie, all of Globe, and two sisters, Mrs. Roy O'Brien, Big Springs, Texas; Mrs. Floria Owens, Calhoun, Ga., and two grandchildren.

Interment was in Globe Cemetery.
