May 1, 1943 - February 10, 2009

Bill was born May 1, 1943 in Charleston, South Carolina to Joe and Edna (McCalip) Chaney. The family moved to California when Bill was a young child and they settled in Porterville.

Bill married Loetta Joy Simmons July 2, 1964 in Lindsay and they continued live in Porterville. Bill worked for the County of Tulare at Road Yard Five. They moved to Wasco 28 years ago and Bill worked in the oil fields. For the last 14 years Bill worked as a correctional officer. Bill was a saddle maker and loved horses, the cowboy life and working with leather. Bill and Loetta were members of the Shafter Missionary Baptist Church and Bill worked as a youth group leader, Sunday School teacher and served as superintendent.

Bill is survived by his wife of 44 years, Loetta Chaney of Wasco; daughters, Jeanette Lempinen & husband Guy, Melanie Nixon and Cindy Jones & husband Michael, all of Bakersfield; 7 grandchildren, Trevor and Zachary Nixon, Mason, Morgan and Makayla Jones and Kaytlynn and Benjamen Lempinen.. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and 6 siblings.

A funeral service will be held Friday, February 13, 2009 at 1pm at Peters Funeral Home, Wasco. Pastor Jim Nixon of the Shafter Missionary Baptist Church will officiate and interment will follow at Wasco Memorial Park. Visitation will be held Thursday, February 12 from 4pm – 8pm.
