Funeral services for Carl Abler were held from St. Anthony's Church here Thurs. Aug. 13, at 10 a.m. Fr. Wm Schmitt officiating.
Burial was in the church cemetery. Mr. Abler, who had attained the age of 83 years, 7 months and 16 days, passed away at Holy Infant Hospital Aug. 10, after being hospitalized six months.
Honorary pallbearers were Math Mertes, Matt Arbach, Matt Hoven, Matt Seurer, Anton Hartung and Hubert Schaefer. Active pallbearers were William Kaiser, Frank Rondorf, Aloys Dreis, Allie Hericks, Jake Van Well and John Reding, all nephews.

Carl was born to Peter and Margaret Abler on Dec. 25, 1875, at Mt. Calvary WI.
At the age of 11, he came with his parents to South Dakota.
They settled on the farm which he presently owned.

He was married to Maggie Hoffman on Nov. 19, 1903 in St. Bernard's Church in Hoven. Eight children were born to this union, namely, Martin, Mary, Albert, Colletta, Henry, Edward, Thomas and Walter.

Mr. Abler was always active in community affairs and for many years was on the Hoven School Board. He was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters. For the past 13 years, he made his home with his son, Henry and family on the home place.

Survivors are on daughter, Mary of Middletown NY; four sons, Martin and Henry of Hoven, Albert of Royal IA and Edward of Glendive MT, ten grandchildren, 8 great-granchildren and one brother, Nick of Fond du Lac WI.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Maggie on Oct. 2, 1943; one daughter, Colletta; 2 sons, Thomas and Walter; four brothers, Anton, John, Joe and Matt; four sisters, Katherine Yeoman, Elizabeth Rogers, Anna Dreis and Mary Mellenbach.

Out-of-town relatives here for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Albert Abler and son Jim of Royal IA; Edward Abler, Glendive MT; Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Abler and son Stanley, San Diego CA; Mrs. Mary Abler and Clara, Mamie Klein and Frances Yeoman, Aberdeen; Mr. and Mrs. Roger Abler, St. Paul MN; Mr. and Mrs. Francis Dylla and sons, Willmar MN; Mrs. Carson Murdy, Dickinson ND, and Mrs. Catherine Timp and family, Gettysburg.
