Bio from the notes of the late Pasha Johnson "Pat" Smith:

Joseph was living at home when the census was taken in 1850, so his marriage to Martha A. Holman took place sometime between 1850, after the census was taken and 1856. In an effort to locate the parents of Martha, I searched the 1850 census of Anderson Co.,KY and in family 226/226 Reuben Holman and his wife Elizabeth has a son Wesley age 29 who was a Constable. There was a daughter, Martha A. whose age was given as 19, which approximates a birthdate of 1830. I have no other proof, but I feel this was the family of Martha A, (Holman) Hedger. I found a record of one child. Joseph wrote his will on 22 Apr 1898. Is buried with his wife Martha. His will was probated on 18 Jul 1898 and in it, he directed his executors to sell all property on six months credit. After payment of debts and expenses the residue was to be divided between his wife, Carrie F. Hedger, and Miss Florence Bailey, who had been raised by Joseph since her childhood. The appraiser was William D. Moore, husband of Alice Vincent (Hedger) Moore.
