AABERG, VENDEL E., age 91, of Winter Park, passed away Feb. 21, 2007, at his home. Mr. Aaberg was born Apr. 6, 1915, in Sandefjord. Norway. At age 14 he sailed on a whaling ship. From there, he joined the Norwegian Merchant Marine. During World War II, he served as a gunner in the Norwegian Navy under the direction of the United States. In his lifetime he went on to become captain of the world largest dredge working for Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Co. until his retirement. Vendel was a member of the Sons of Norway, The International Union of Operating Engineers, and the Royal Norwegian Navy War Veterans Association. He has resided in Florida for the past 25 years. Mr. Aaberg was predeceased by his first wife, Helen Imsland. Mr. Aaberg is survived by his second wife of 21 years, Audrey Mila of Winter Park; his daughter, Wendelyn Aaberg (Royal) Lantz of DeBary; stepdaughter, Lynne (Peter) Mason of Connecticut; grandchildren, Ryan (Christy) Lantz of Atlanta, GA, Jennifer (Rob) Fuicelli of Deland, Tracy Cashon of Winter Park; and his great grandchild, Christian Vendel Fuicelli, also of Deland.
