He died on Wednesday, November 11,1981 at St. Luke's Hospital, Sioux City, Iowa at the age of 69.
Lenard was raised on a farm in Grant Township. He received his early education in the parochial and rural schools near his home.
On September 20, 1936, Lenard was united in marriage to Stella Meyer in Grant Township. Together they made their home on a farm near Schleswig. Lenard farmed all of his working career.
After his wife's death and later his retirement he continued to make his home on the farm near Schleswig.
In addition to his wife, Lenard was preceded in death by his father and one brother in infancy.
Survivors include one daughter, LaJoyce, Mrs. Charles Robinson of Poway, California; two grandchildren
and two step grandchildren; and his mother, Mrs. Hertha Abbe of Danbury. Also surviving is one brother, Ted of Schleswig, and five sisters, Mrs. Clara Stockfleth of Danbury, Mrs. Irene Paulsen of Ida Grove, Alice, Mrs. Ray Bruhn of Schleswig, Esther, Mrs. Henry Jepsen of Spirit Lake and Lois, Mrs. Ray Scott of Danbury.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, November 14, 1981 at 10:30 a.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig.
Burial was in the Morgan Cemetery.
The Rev. Paul Wiegert officiated at the services.
Serving as pallbearers were Melvin Schultz, Merlin Stockfleth, Walter Gosch, Edgar Blume, Leon Gosch and Don Bielenberg.
