Funeral services were 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, October 15, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig. The Rev. Richard Nelson and Dr. John R. Stephenson, Vicar, officiated at the services. Burial was in Morgan Township Cemetery, Schleswig, Iowa.
Raymond Wilhelm Friedrich Abbe was born May 26, 1910, in Grant Township, Ida County, Iowa, the son of Johann Gustav and Emma Helena (Marth) Abbe. Raymond spent his formative years on a family farm in Grant Township. He received his formal education in the rural schools near his home. He was bapitzed and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grant Township.
He married Frances Clara Burk on December 21, 1932, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grant Township. Together they made their home on a farm in Grant Township for 34 years. Following retirement from farming in 1966, they moved to Schleswig. Raymond began his career with Farmers Mutual Insurance Company in 1966. Raymond and Frances celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1982. Frances died on September 7, 1983. Raymond continued to make Schleswig his home after his wife's death.
Surviving are one niece, Sandra (Paul) Burton of Danbury; one nephew, Orland (Darlene) Abbe of Schleswig; two sisters-in-law, LuVern Schneider of Battle Creek and Hedwig Abbe of Schleswig; and other relations and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
