Edward J. Abfalter, 75, Bismarck, died Sept. 25, 2004, at a Bismarck hospital. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 1, at First Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with the Rev. Allen Wangner officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, where a prayer service will be held at 7 p.m.

Edward was born Feb. 13, 1929, in Bismarck, the son of Edward R. and Margaret (Taylor) Abfalter. He was raised in Bismarck and graduated from Bismarck High School in 1947, where he lettered in basketball, football and track, sang in the choir and played in the band. Edward graduated from Bismarck Junior College in 1950. He served in the National Guard, after which he joined the United States Air Force in 1951, serving during the Korean Conflict. He then graduated from University of North Dakota in 1956. Edward married Barbara Stoen in 1957, and together they had three children.

He was employed with Quain and Ramstad Clinic for 22 years and Central Dakota Radiology from 1978 until his retirement in 1994. After retirement, he enjoyed spending summers at his lake home with his entire family. He was a member of the American Legion, the Elks Lodge, and First Lutheran Church. Edward was involved with the United Way Campaign and volunteered for forty plus years with the "Open Your Heart" drives.

Edward's dedication to his family was always his number one priority. He gave countless hours of his time and love to his wife, children and grandchildren, who are all so thankful for the time they were able to spend on this earth with him. He always gave to others first, putting himself a distant second. Ed loved to spend his free time watching his grandchildren play hockey, teaching them to shoot pool, and going to local sporting events.

He will be fondly remembered by his many, many friends who knew Ed for his positive, outgoing attitude and lasting patience and unconditional love for his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; his son and daughter-in-law, Curtis and Nancy Abfalter, Bismarck; and his daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Don Huck, Bismarck, and Julie and Jeff Meyer, Lino Lakes, Minn. He absolutely loved and adored his eight grandchildren, Tyler, Tristen, Trevor, Marcus, Jack, Eva, Joshua and Jillian. He is also survived by his three sisters, Marlene, Jordis and Shirley; and two brothers, Charles and Bruce.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one grandson, Travis.
