Son of the late Walter C. and Isabelle Hoxley Joy, he was born April 28, 1922.
Mr. Joy served in the U.S. Army Air Corp as a pilot during World War II. Before retiring, he was an electrical engineer at Sikorsky Aircraft.
An active member of the community, he was a former member and volunteer for the Milford Fire Department, a volunteer at Milford Hospital, a member of American Legion Post #196, VFW Post #7788, and St. Mary's Holy Name Society and a leader of St. Mary's Cub Scouts, where he received several awards.
Along with working the polls for the Democratic Party, he played the role of Ben Franklin for the DAR for several years. He also will be remembered as being an original board member and instrumental in saving Ryder's Park.
"Besides being a devoted husband, father and grandfather, he enjoyed golf, bingo and traveling," his family said.
Survivors include his daughter, Rebecca Joy-Buck and her husband, Don of Milford; son, Paul Joy and wife, Libby of Stratford; grandchildren, Jennifer, Amanda, Emily, Austin, Alden and Bryn; great-grandchildren, Abbie, Robbie and Andrew; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Arrangement made with the Smith & Sefcik Funeral Home, 135 Broad St., Milford. Services in St. Mary's Church, Gulf St., Milford.
Burial with full military honors follows in St. Mary's Cemetery, Milford.
