Fred Reinhold Engel was born in Garrison, North Dakota on June 16th, 1924 to Emma (Drefs) and Gotthilf Engel. His family moved to Startup, Washington in 1930. He attended school in Startup and Sultan, Washington. In 1942, he joined the Marine Corps. He served four years in the Pacific being wounded several times and receiving two purple hearts. He was discharged and rejoined in 1949 and served during the Korean Conflict. He served until his retirement in Jaunuary, 1965. He retired as Staff Sergeant. Fred was then employed by Boeing.
