Belle Sobolik


Belle Rosalind Helgerson was born October 30, 1909 in Enderlin, ND, the daughter of Archibald and Selma Orvik Helgerson.She died peacefully in her sleep with her family at her side early Sunday morning August 3, 2008 at the Good Samaritan Center in Larimore, ND. At age 4, Belle moved with her family to Fordville, ND. She graduated from Fordville High School in 1927 and attended nurses training at the Bratrud Clinic in Warren, MN for one year.She married Dennis James Sobolik on October 10, 1928 in Grafton, ND. They lived in Lankin, ND for one year, moving to Fordville, ND where they began a life long relationship as managers and owners of Tri County Oil Company.Belle was a member of the Fordville Lutheran Church from 1914 to the date of her death. She was confirmed with the first class of the new Fordville Lutheran Church on May 25, 1924. She taught Sunday School for 26 years and was Superintendent for many of those years. She held all the offices of the Ladies Aid and was a charter member of the Mission Club having sewn hundreds of baby layettes and quilts for missions overseas. Belle was active in P.T.A., Homemakers and the last member of her very special Birthday Club.After Belle's husband, Jerry's, death in September of 1983, she continued to live in her home in Fordville until October of 1998 when she moved to Tufte Manor in Grand Forks. She resided there, forming many new friendships and being active until moving to the Larimore Good Samaritan Center in May, 2008.Surviving Belle are her children: Shirley (Alan) Arff, Palm Springs, CA; Dennis (Cindy) Sobolik, Hallock, MN; Joanne (Harley) Aamoth, Bel-view, MN; Sharlene (Richard) Schultz, Fargo, ND; and Bob (Daphne) Sobolik, Fordville, ND; 13 Grandchildren; 27 Great Grandchildren; 2 Great Great Grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.Belle was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jerry (DJ), granddaughter Janet Sobolik, son-in-law Alan Arff, daughter-in-law Marlene Sobolik, grandson Blake Sobolik, granddaughter-in-law Wendy Sobolik and son-in-law Harley Aamoth.Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 6, beginning at 5 p.m. in the Fordville Lutheran Church with a Prayer service at 7 p.m. and one hour prior to the service.The service of remembrance and celebration of Belle's life will be on Thursday, August 7 at 2 p.m. in the Fordville Lutheran Church.Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Fordville.
