Dora Eliza Freeman was the daughter of George William Freeman and Julia Ann Lloyd. She was a native of Michigan, born May 5th, 1877. She was married twice; her 1st spouse was W.W. Everett, a native of Tennessee, b. April 1871, per 1900 U S Census taken while he and Dora were living in Buena Vista, Chaffee Co., Colorado, with their 2 children, "Burna", age 3, and George B., age 7 months. Dora's husband was a day laborer at that time. She married Thomas G. Adams, a farmer and native of Michigan, in Oklahoma on Dec 13, 1904. It was a 2nd marriage for both of them and, in 1910, "Burnis"{Burnice}, age 13, and George, age 10, were in the home, along with a new half sibling, Mary J., age 1. Thomas was working their farm in 1910, but they relocated to Oregon between 1910 and 1920. Dora's father had moved to Imnaha, Wallowa Co., Oregon in 1915 from Maysville, Oklahoma, and was working on a sheep ranch in 1916 when he was killed by a blow to the back of his head; his body was found after he had been missing for five days. An inquest was held but no one was ever charged with the murder. Dora's mother had remained in Oklahoma and died in 1927.
In 1920, Dora, Thomas and their daughter, Mary J., now age 10, had relocated to Joseph, Wallowa Co., Oregon. Thomas, now aged 50, worked as a farm laborer.
1930 proved to be a difficult year for Dora, to put it mildly. When the 1930 census was taken in April, Thomas and Dora owned a house valued at $800. Their daughter, Mary J., was 21, had been married for four years and had the last name of Moore. Dora's son, listed as George Brian Everett, was a World War veteran and in the home as well. None of them listed any income as of April, 1930. Dora's elder daughter, Burnice, died from Sepsis with Acute Alcoholism being the secondary cause of her death on November 12, 1930. Dora's husband had suffered from Nephritis and died 10 days later, on November 22, 1930. Both Burnice and Thomas were interred at the Joseph Cemetery.
When the 1940 census was taken, Dora was living as a live-in maid (housekeeper) for Bert and Helen Marks and their year old son, Jack.
I did not find any further records on Dora other than her date and place of death, which occurred April 17, 1971 in Portland, Oregon. She was interred at Joseph Cemetery, where her father, husband and daughter are buried.
May she Rest in Peace in Paradise with her Loved Ones.
