Charles was born in Kentucky around 1840-1845. He married Alice Abbott in Schuyler County, Illinois on March 14, 1869. They had (at least) three children: James, Thursey, and Emily. Alice died on May 30, 1882.

Charles later married Sentitha E. Douglas Curtner. They had several children: Lula, Elmer, Felix, Martha, Thomas, Ina. In addition, Sentitha also had a son, Edgar, from her first marriage to T. G. Curtner. They raised their family in Texas County, Missouri.

Charles passed away on April 30, 1933.
