Raymond Manley Olsen
Madras resident Raymond Manley Olsen, 80, died May 14, 2009, at Mountain View Hospital, following an extended illness.
Mr. Olsen was born on Sept. 8, 1928, to William and Alma (Andersen) Olsen in Canby.
After graduating from high school, he served in the U.S. Army between the years of 1952 and 1954, during the Korean Conflict. He also earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Oregon State University in wildlife biology.
Mr. Olsen was married to Mildred Rohde. In 1959, the couple came to Madras from Empire, Ore. He was employed as a wildlife biologist for the state of Oregon for many years, and then opened Olsen's Saddleshop, where he was a great saddlemaker prior to his retirement.
He is survived by his wife Millie of Madras; son and daughter-in-law Dave and Deanna Olsen of Redmond; daughter Beckey Olsen of Salem; grandchildren Shasta and Casey Olsen of Redmond, and Collin and Tate McWhorter of Salem, and two great-grandchildren; and a sister Muriel Brawner of Canby.
Visitation was held May 18, followed by graveside services at 1 p.m. at Mount Jefferson Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial services were at 2 p.m. at Madras Conservative Baptist Church.
Memorial donations may be made to Mountain View Hospice.
