Alta Marie Bohlman, 89, died March 8, 2009, at Garrison Creek Lodge, in Walla Walla, Wash.
Mrs. Bohlman was born Nov. 26, 1919, in Viola, Idaho, to Ralph Glen and Edna Marie Bingman Chaney. Growing up on a wheat ranch in Viola, she attended the first two years of school at Thatuna Academy in Viola; attended Columbia Adventist Academy in Battle Ground, Wash., for the 11th grade and graduated from Walla Walla College Academy, now Walla Walla Valley Academy. She then attended Walla Walla University for one year.
She had lived in the Walla Walla area since 1936, except for 14 years when the family lived in Madras. On June 29, 1939, she and Raymond Andrew Bohlman married in Moscow, Idaho. She assisted her husband as bookkeeper for their family business, Willowdale Rock Quarry.
She enjoyed her role as a homemaker including entertaining family and friends with tasty food and gardening, and loved to travel to Hawaii, Alaska, and most of the United States.
She was an active member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church and held many church offices including leader/treasurer of the College Place Community Services Center.
She is survived by her daughter, Donna Shelman of Apison, Tenn.; son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Vera Bohlman of Walla Walla; two sisters, Alvira Johnstone of Walla Walla and Aileen Carr of Hood River; a sister-in-law, Stella Bohlman of College Place; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and eight nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband who passed away June 11, 2008, and a son-in-law, Walter Shelman.
Funeral services were held March 10, in the Chapel of the Village Seventh-day Adventist Church, in College Place. Pastors Neal Matson and Steve Walikonis officiated. Burial followed in Mount Hope Cemetery in College Place, Wash.
Memorial contributions were suggested to Blue Mountain Television, Canvasback, or Project PATCH through the funeral home.
