Margaret was a lifelong resident of Bradley County and a descendant of pioneer Bradley County families. The middle daughter of John Franklin and Margaret Wolfe Bean of the Black Fox Community, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Mary Frances Kelley and Frankie Bennett. A graduate of Bradley County High School and Tennessee Wesleyan College, Margaret taught in Bradley County elementary schools before becoming a full-time mother and homemaker. She enjoyed working in her home and yard, and took special pride in her flowers. She was a devoted caregiver for her youngest grandchildren in her later years.
She is survived by three daughters and their husbands: Sandra and Dan Pierce of Carrollton, TX, Dorothy and Charles Carrick, and Mary Margaret and Joe Stamper, all of Cleveland; one son and daughter-in-law, Frank and Debbie Abel of Cleveland; grandchildren and spouses: Patti and Jerry Burns of Carrollton, TX, Charles and Carey Pierce of Tyler, TX, Michael and Christine Smajda of Escanaba, MI, Richard Blackman of Cleveland, David Stephenson of Natchitoches, LA, and Evan and Maegan Abel of Cleveland; and five great-grandchildren: Douglas Burns, Adam and Hallie Pierce, and Andrew and Emily Smajda.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 Monday afternoon, June 16, 2008, at Broad Street United Methodist Church with Pastor Andy Ferguson and Pastor Debbie Stokes officiating. Interment will follow in Hilcrest Memorial Gardens.
Her family will receive friends from noon until service time at the church on Monday.
