Barbara Joann Abel, 73, of Mitchell, formerly of Burns City, died at 2:56 a.m. on Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at Dunn Memorial Hospital in Bedford.
She was born Dec. 29, 1935, Bicknell, the daughter of James and Ethel (Carter) Norrington. She married Robert D. Abel, and he preceded her in death in 2002.
She had previously worked at Ketcham Memorial Center in Odon.
Survivors include two sons, Randy Abel and wife Donetta of Dover Hill, and Jim Abel of Indianapolis; one daughter, Brenda White and husband Roger of Orleans; two sisters, Lavonda Wilson, and Connie Norrington, both of Mitchell; six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three sons, Jerry, Rick, and Dennis Abel; one brother, Darrell Norrington; and one granddaughter.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Brocksmith Funeral Home in Loogootee. Burial will follow in Goodwill Cemetery in Loogootee.
