George W. Acker, 58, of Kalkaska, died Sunday, Dec. 13, at his home after a long illness. Born in Big Rapids February 7, 1923, he received his B.S. degree from Central Michigan University in 1950 and his masters from the University of Michigan in 1952. Mr. Acker taught at Wolverine and Gaylord for four years each and Van Dyke School in Warren for 22 years until retiring in January, 1979. He also taught at South Macomb Community College. He was a veteran of World War II and moved to Kalkaska three years ago. Mr. Acker and the former Mary A. Leonard were married November 22, 1947, in Gladwin.
Besides his wife, he is survived by 3 sons, George of Coloma, Michael of Charlevoix and Jon a student at CMU: a brother, Andrew of Big Rapids; 2 sisters, Mrs. Grace Bloxsom of Acme and Mrs. Geraldine Bloxsom of Traverse City; and 2 granddaughters.
The body was cremated and a memorial service will be held Saturday, Dec. 19, at 1 p.m. at the Hall Funeral Home, Gladwin Chapel, with the Rev. Donald Bates officiating. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Gladwin County Record dated 12-16/1981 Column - 6 Page - 2
