Mr. King came to Oklahoma in 1890 and homesteaded in Roger Mills County on the Croton Creek Bar Z Ranch where he resided until moving to Elk City in 1953.
He was active in the pioneer development of Roger Mills County, having served on the Board of Education and Election Board at Rankin, Oklahoma for some twenty years. He was active in early day school consolidation to provide improved educational opportunity.
A log house was built on the Ranch site and Mr. King hauled lumber for the present ranch home where his daughter and husband now reside, from Mountain View, Oklahoma.
Mr. King was united in marriage to Faith Mabel Phillips, December 1, 1907 at her mother's homestead, Dempsey, Oklahoma.
He leaves his wife, Mabel, of the home address, one son William Wallace King of Lawndale, California, four daughters, Mrs. Bonnie R. Douglas of Las Cruces, New Mexico, Mrs. Clara R. Davis of Reydon, Oklahoma, Mrs. Naomi M. Johnson of Overbrook, Oklahoma, Mrs. Rhea L. Douglas of Tulsa, Oklahoma. One son, James L King, preceded him in death.
Eleven grandchildren also survive: Mrs. Betty Rose Rios, James W. King, Robin L. King, Leon J. Davis, Mrs. Linda J. Reimer, Miss Lynne M. Douglas, Clarence Johnson, Cecil Johnson, Kenneth Douglas, Janice Douglas and John King; eight great grandchildren; two brothers George W. and Joe B. of Oklahoma City; one sister, Mrs. Addie Abbott of Reydon; a host of nieces and nephews; devoted sons and daughters by marriage mourn his passing.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday at the Elk City Church of God at 10 &, m. with Rev. Lyndon Howard pastor, officiating. Interment was in the Dempsey cemetery by Martin Funeral Home.
