Rites Today for Charles Abbott, Retired Lawyer
Charles Powell Abbott Sr. 85, pioneer retired Durant attorney, died at his home, 924 N 7, early Sunday, after an extended illness.

Funeral rites were held at the First Christian church at 3 p.m. today, with Rev. Charles M. Bretz officiating, and burial, under direction of Holmes Funeral home, was in Highland cemetery.
Pallbearers were Frank Dyer, Ben Gunter, Eugene Slaughter, Wallace W. Gates, Frank Bunn and Fred Lowry.

A native of Connersville, Tenn., Mr. Abbott was born August 10, 1875, and he had lived in Durant 54 years, most of which time he spent in law practice. He was married to Miss Mary Gertrude Gammon at Puryear, Tenn., in 1897. Mrs Abbot died September 17, 1951. Mr. Abbott was a member and officer of the First Christian church.

He was a graduate of Dixon College, Doxo, Tenn., and Cumberland University law school, Lebanon, Tenn.

Survivors include one son Charles P. Abbott Jr., Dallas, three daughters, Mrs. Kathleen Struble, Palmer Lake, Colo.; Mrs. Louise Dean, Hugo; and Mrs. Emmatrude Shaw, Oklahoma City; 11 grand children and eight great grandchildren.
