KINGSTON, Tenn. - Sarah Greene Abernathy, 92, died Wednesday, Dec. 2, 2009, in Waxhaw, N.C. She was born Dec. 19, 1916, in Pinson, Tenn., to Mary Smith and Stephen D. Greene. She was a member of Kingston First Baptist Church. She enjoyed playing canasta. She was a member of the Kingston Canasta Group and the Home Demonstration Club of Roane County.

Services will be at 6 p.m. today at Weatherford Mortuary in Oak Ridge, Tenn., with Pastor Randy Roper and William Choate officiating. Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Anderson Memorial Gardens.

She is survived by three sons, Thomas A. Abernathy III, and wife, Dottie, of Kingston, Tenn., Stephen D. Abernathy and wife, Pam, of Waxhaw, N.C., and Richard M. Abernathy and wife, Candy, of Overland Park, Kan.; one brother, James H. Greene and wife, Loretta, of Rockdale, Texas; a sister-in-law, Loraine Abernathy Wessen of Tupelo; her grandchildren, Kim Duncan, Anne Quade, Taylor Abernathy, Adam Abernathy, Andrew Abernathy, Ginny Netherland, Dyannia Glissen, Tina Cantrell and Chuck Renick; and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas A. Abernathy Jr., in 1986; her parents; a brother, Walter Greene; two sisters, Louise Phillips and Katherine Brevard; and a granddaughter, Reneampé Anderson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Adam Abernathy, Andrew Abernathy, Taylor Abernathy, Ryan Duncan, Jimmy Greene and Keith Glissen.
