Rilla Abbott, believed to have been the oldest resident of the state, died today at the age of 109 years.
She had lived here with her two daughters, Mrs. Donna Jones and Mrs. Julia Taylor, and had been active until recently. She dressed herself, watched television and took short walks in the garden.
Besides the daughters, she leaves another daughter, Mrs. Florence A. Younkin, Springfield, and a son, Clarence Abbott, Malvern, Ark.
She was born in Stylesville, Ind., February 12, 1855, and traveled to Missouri in 1865, with her family. They made part of the trip on the first run of the Missouri Pacific from St. Louis to Pleasant Hill.
The family settled in Cass County, where Mrs. Abbott lived until 1923, when she and her husband, Rollin G. Abbott, moved here. Her husband died in 1925.
