He was born Jan. 30, 1926, in Craigsville, Va., and was the son of the late Joseph S. and Nannie Pearl Mays Showker.
Mr. Showker was an entrepreneur, philanthropist and the founder and owner of Harrisonburg Fruit and Produce, which is now Sysco Food Services of Virginia, where he served as president emeritus.
He was a former rector at James Madison University, active on the Board of Directors of Rockingham Memorial Hospital and a 50-year member of the First Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by two sons, Fred Showker and wife, Carol, of Weyers Cave and Joe Showker and wife, Debbie, of Harrisonburg; one daughter, Zanette Showker Hahn and husband, Howard, of Weyers Cave; their children's mother, Charlotte H. Showker of Harrisonburg; his twin brother, Gene A. Showker of Waynesboro; sister, Thelma S. Eiland of Sunnyside; four grandchildren, Kelly, Max, Jennifer and Christen; a dear friend, Dr. Dorothy Rowe; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Memorial services at the First Presbyterian Church in Harrisonburg by Dr. John F. Sloop.
Honorary pallbearers will be employees of the original Harrisonburg Fruit and Produce.
Private burial will be in the Zane D. Showker Memorial Gardens near Weyers Cave.
