Obituary.

Nancy Louise Tisdel was born in Madison Lake county, Ohio, April 8, 1843. She was married to John S. Abbey, in Warren, Jo Daviess county, Illinois, March 2, 1865.

Coming west, they settled in Salem, Nebraska, living there until 1877, when they moved to Kansas, settling on the present home place.

The following children are born to them, all of whom still surviving: Don Wyman Abbey; Mrs. Cyril Lois DeLong, of Coquille, Oregon; Wm. Herman Abbey, of Kansas City, Mo.; Fred Wallace Abbey, of Eugene, Oregon; and Mrs. Jessie Ellen Wheeler, of Baldwin Park, California. She is also survived by three sisters: Mrs. Mary Wyman of Painsville, Ohio, Mrs. Sarah Jennings, of Sapulpa, Okla., and Mrs. Ellen Staver, of Salem, Nebraska and three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Mrs. Abbey died at Coquille, Oregon, August 7, 1918, at the age of 75 years, 4 months and 29 days. Her husband preceded her in death by three years, dying May 8, 1915.

Mrs. Abbey was a great worker for the betterment of the community. Doubtless, much of this is to be explained by the fact that she was a faithful member of the Free Baptist church since the days of her childhood.

She assisted in organizing the Sunday School in the old Highland stone church more than 35 years ago. At different times she has served as superintendent, teacher and chorister in the school. She served as superintendent of the Cradle Roll for the past 21 years, and was serving in that capacity at the time of her death. She was always a great worker with children.

She was a member of the Woman's Missionary Society, organized more than 30 years ago, and was its president for the entire 30 years.

She and her husband had charge of the Half Way Postoffice from about 1878 until the time of the installation of the Rural Free Delivery.

The community and church will always be better and more useful because of her life and whole-hearted service.

The esteem in which she was held was evidenced by the large number in attendance at her funeral.

Funeral services were conducted at the Highland Free Baptist church Wednesday afternoon, Aug. 14th, at 3 o'clock, by the Rev. T.H. Parrott of Jamestown, after which interment was made in the church cemetery.
