Service Held For Mrs. Appelhons, 69, at St. Patricks. Funeral services were held at the St. Patrick's church in Britt, Monday morning at 9 o'clock for Mrs. Catherine Appelhons, 69, whose death occurred at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital at Britt, Friday, Oct. 21, following a month's illness.

The celebrant for the last rites was the Rev. Father John P. Smith. The remains were laid to rest in the family lot in St. Patrick's Cemetery. The Rosary was said at the Boughton Funeral Home.

Catherine Leona Kriss was born at Rothammel, Russia, June 13, 1886, a daughter to Andrew and Magdeline Kriss.

She grew to womanhood in her native land, and in 1908 was married to John Appelhons at Rothammel.

Four years after marriage Mr. and Mrs. and daughter Elizabeth, came to America, making their first home at Waverly, where Mr. Appelhons worked in a factory. Leaving there the family went to Minnesota to take up farming and lived in various vicinities in both Iowa and Minnesota, coming to Britt in 1916 where they farmed. Mr and Mrs. Appelhons reared their family in a new country.

Two of the sons, John Jr. and Joe, joined the ranks of America's fighting forces in World War II to defend the freedom of their parents' adopted country. Mr. and Mrs. Appellons and daughter, all became naturalized citizens of the United Slates.

Mr. Appelhons died on July 30, 1944.

In recent years a son-in-law and daughter, the Merle Haxton family, had been making their home with Mrs. Appellons. Deceased was confirmed in the church of her native land; she was a member of the St. Patrick's Church and the Rosary Guild of Britt.

Surviving are three sons and four daughters; Mrs. Merle (Elizabeth) Haxton, Britt; John Jr., Forest City; Jacob, Mrs. Charles (Barbara) Jilek, Mrs. Louis (Mary) Fox, Joe, and Mrs. Darrell (Irene) Francis, all of Britt. There are thirteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death besides her husband were four children, also two brothers and one sister.
