John Bryan Abbott, Jr. died Thursday, September 2, 2004, at the New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington as a result of Mantle Cell Lymphoma.
John was born in Elizabeth, NJ, on November 20, 1943, the son of the late John Bryan Abbott, Sr., and Millicent Sanderson Abbott.
John received his undergraduate degree from Wilmington College, his MBA Degree from East Carolina University and his Phd. from the University of North Texas in Denton, TX, in Human Resources and Business Organization. While working on his Doctorate Degree he was recognized as the Outstanding Teacher of the Year at the University of North Texas. Of this he was very proud. He taught most of his career at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and later at the University of South Carolina at Beaufort, SC.
John was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Chattanooga, TN, and was a passionate collector of Model T Fords. He was a member of the Model T Ford Club of America and was very active in the Model T Car Club of North Texas in Dallas.
Survivors include his wife, Carla Otts Abbott; one son, John Bryan Abbott, III and his wife April of Dallas, TX; and one sister, Adrienne Abbott Jackson and her husband Andy Jackson of Wilmington.
Funeral services will be held at 3PM Sunday, September 5, 2004, at Andrews Mortuary Market Street Chapel by Rev. Tim Russell. Interment will follow in Oakdale Cemetery in Wilmington.
