Mrs. Geo.Murray, 84 years old, Whitlash, one of the pioneers of Liberty country, passed away at the Liberty County Hospital Sunday afternoon. She had been in ill health for several months.
She was born Ida May Umphrey, October 19, 1871 in Linn County, Kansas. She was one of four children of Samuel Franklin and Deborah Umphrey. In 1886 she was united in marriage to George Murray in Linn County, Kansas. To this union three children were born. In 1896 the family moved to Montana and in 1897 moved to the present homesite. In 1917 her daughter Lois Aiken passed away leaving two small children, Edith and Glenn, whom she raised. In 1921 her son George Henry passed away at home and in 1926 she lost her husband.
She was preceded in death by her brothers John and Henry, her sister, Rose Stark. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Lena Bauer Prosser, Washington, five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Thursday, November 3 at the Methodist Church in Chester with Rev. Shoemaker officiating. Burial was in the family plot in Chester.
