Lurena Frances "Fannie" Abbett Adcock

Fannie was born April 4, 1853 in Walnut Hill, Tallapoosa, Alabama, according to her granddaughter, Maggie Adcock Austin in a letter to Jim & Erma Williams. She was the second of six children born to Littleton Berry Abbett (1825-1895) and Sarah Elizabeth Caroline Land (1831-1895).

Her siblings were:
Ann Eliza (1851-1936), Louisa Narcisia (1855-1896), Sarah Elizabeth Caroline (1858-1929), Emma O (1860-1882), and Solomon Joshua Berry (1872-1954).

She married Dr. Jeremiah “James” Burson Adcock September 9, 1869 in Tallapoosa County, Alabama. The following year, 1870, along with her family they joined a wagon train which took them to Union Parish, Louisiana. During the arduous trip she gave birth to the first of their four children, John Berry Adcock.

With her husband dying when she was just 29 years old, Fannie had to raise the three boys and one girl and was grateful that her parents and siblings had also migrated with them.

Maggie Adcock Austin also stated that she was about fifteen years old when Fannie “. . .had a stroke when on her way to church in a wagon with her son and family, William Burson Adcock. She later had [a] second or third stroke which took her away." She died August 1, 1916 in Spearsville, Union Parish Louisiana.
