AN AGED CITIZEN GONE

Mr. Willis Ennis Passed Away in this City Sunday Evening


After over 14 months of long and patient suffering, with Christian fortitude, Mr. Willis Ennis peacefully breathed out his life at the home of his son on West Fourth street in this city Sunday evening at 7:30 o'clock.
During his recent sickness he has been surrounded by all his large family of surviving children except the eldest, Mrs. W. M. Temple of Bowling Green, Kentucky. The others int he order of their ages are Mrs. A. B. Moore of Carthage; Mrs. J. S. Kelley of Marshall, MO; Mrs. J. L. Newland, George K. Ennis and W. P. Ennis of Carthage and Edward H. Ennis of Monett, MO.
The deceased was born in Warren county, KY., October 22, 1816 and was consequently nearly 82 years of age. He moved to Jasper county, MO., in 1880 to a farm 8 miles north of Carthage. He moved to Sarcoxie 5 years ago, but for the past three years he has lived in Carthage.
While yet a youth in Kentucky, he joined the I.O.O.F. and at his death was also a consistent and faithful member of the Methodist Church, South since his youth. His first wife and the mother of all of his children, was Caroline J. Hines of Bowling Green, KY., to whom he was married in 1839. She died in 1883.
His second wife was Mrs. Nannie Skiles of Warren county, Kentucky, who died 3 years ago.
During all his long months of illness he has been carefully cared for and tenderly nursed by his loving children, assisted by Carthage Lodge I.O.O.F., whose members assisted by Sarcoxie Lodge, will officiate at his funeral, which took place at the residence on West Fourth street. Rev. L. P. Norfleet, pastor of the Methodist church south conducted the services at the residence, and were concluded at Park Cemetery, according to the ritual of the I.O.O.F.
