LANETT -- Mr. Lonnie Lorenzo Aaron, 95, of Lanett died Friday, July 25, 2003 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Montgomery.
Funeral services were held in Lanett First United Methodist Church on Sunday, July 27 at 2 p.m. with the Revs. Brian Wyatt and Donnie Erwin-Brown officiating. Burial followed in Resthaven Cemetery.
Mr. Aaron is survived by a son, Charles O. (Shirley) Aaron of Lanett; a daughter, Rudene Aaron (Pete) McCoy of Lanett; five grandchildren, Claude "Skip" (Cathy) McCoy, Valerie McCoy (Kent) Kambeitz, Jonathan Kyle McCoy, Amanda Aaron (Tom) Cordi, and Brent (Margaret) Aaron; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Born in Tallapoosa County on Feb. 19, 1908, Mr. Aaron was the youngest of 10 children. For many years, he was the owner-operator of Aaron's Grocery in Lanett. He was also a home builder and contractor in the Valley area. Mr. Aaron was a veteran of World War II where he served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of Lanett First United Methodist Church.
Mr. Aaron was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Mrs. Ruby Oliver Aaron; his grandson, Charles O. Aaron Jr.; five sisters, Sallie Aaron Watkins, Ida Aaron Fant, Mollie Aaron Martin, Debbie Aaron Boone and Annie Aaron Sparks; four brothers, Will Aaron, Wood Aaron, Nealy Aaron and John Aaron. He was the son of the late Neal Aaron and Sallie Gilbert Aaron.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Lanett First United Methodist Church in his memory.
The family received friends Saturday evening at Johnson Brown Service Funeral Home in Valley.
