Helen S. Hampton, 71, Muscatine, died Sept. 30, 2002, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinic, Iowa City. Services are 10 a.m. Friday at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home. The Rev. Paul Ostrem will officiate. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to support the American Heart Association and University of Iowa Hospitals. Mrs. Hampton was born on Sept. 7, 1931, in Jasper, Ala., the daughter of John and Iris Brown Banks. She married Henry E. Hampton on May 2, 1952, in Glen, Ala.: She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and enjoyed camping, fun with her grandchildren and playing at The Boat. She retired from AT&T of Davenport. Survivors include her husband; a son, Michael W. Hampton and his wife, Carol, of Muscatine; a daughter, Marjie L. Woods and her husband, Randy, of St. Louis, Mo.; six grandchildren, Brandon Conklin, Michelle Hampton, Melissa Hampton, Ryne Woods, Aubrey Woods and Shelby Woods; a great-granddaughter, Emily Conklin; a brother, Quillian Banks and his wife, Margaret, of LaGrange, Ga.; a sister, Muriel Abbott and her husband, James, of LaGrange. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, John and Bobby Banks.
