After the age of 14, Ray worked at various ranches in the Tryon and Stapleton area.
He entered the United States Army on February 24, 1941 and was stationed in Panama until April of 1943, when he returned on furlough to Tryon and married Ruth Viola Haney on April 19, 1943. The couple then resided at various Army Installations until 1945, when he was honorably discharged. He then returned to Tryon where they lived until 1953, they then moved to Thermopolis, Wyoming, where Ray was employed by Empire Oil until May of 1960. He retired as an employee of Montana Dakota Utilities in August of 1983, after 23 years in Worland, Wyoming. The couple then moved back to North Platte to be near family. He worked hard to provide for his family and he was a loving husband and father. Ray enjoyed music, woodworking and tinkering in his garage, and he whistled while he worked.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth of North Platte; 1 son, Stephen L. Allen; brother, Wilbur of Stapleton; 2 step-sisters, Ada Allen of Sutherland and Dorothy Grimes of Kearney; nieces and nephews and various other family members and friends.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents; 3 sisters, Ethel Miller, Leola Allen and Bernice Magnuson; 3 brothers, Eldon Allen, Chet Allen and Lloyd Miller; 3 brothers-in-law, Maurice Grimes, Swede Magnuson and Melvin Miller; 2 sister-in-law, Halcyon Miller and Betty Allen.
