He was the son of Lindell Elwin and Mary (Foley) Abbott. He married Beverly Melen July 6, 1940 in Rutland, Vermont.

He was a resident at 1539 Lakeview Terrace, Jacksonville IL and a WWII Navy Veteran.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters: Mrs. Rollin (Carol) Martin of Florissant, Mo. and Mrs. Linda Webber of San Diego, Calif.; a son: Lester "Jay" Abbott, Jr. of Jacksonville; nine grandchildren; two half-brothers: Elwin Abbott of Three Rivers, Mass. and Elbridge of Crown Point, N.Y.

He was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.
