Betty Abbey, 85 of Witten, SD, passed away on Sunday, December 27, at the Avera Gregory Healthcare Center in Gregory, SD. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 31, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Winner, SD.
Burial will be in the Winner Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to funeral services at the church.
Betty was born August 14, 1924 at Witten, SD to John B. and Sarah (Coen) Meyer.
She attended school at Witten, SD. She was the oldest living resident of both Old
Witten and New Witten.
She was the depot agent at Witten, SD from 1946 to part of 1950, then 1951 till 1960 when the Witten depot closed.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. Betty was united in marriage to Paul Nels Abbey on January 8, 1944 in Burke, SD.
She loved spending time with all her family and friends.
Betty is survived by her son Alvin (Linda), Omaha, NE, two daughters; Constance (Jon) Schlem, Sunray, TX and Jayne (Jacob) Fetzer, Bismarck, ND, eight grandchildren, Tim, Brady, Joanne, Dawn, Mardell, Jason, Jacob, and Molly; 10 great grandchildren, Chase, Skyler, Amanda, Tyler, Justin, Devin, Austen, Nikki, Carter, and Carson; one great great grandchild, Abhinanda; brother in law & sister in law, Raymond & Rhoda Abbey, brother in law, Lowell Neiman, sister in law, Dorene Meyer, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; her parents; her brothers, Johnny Meyer, Paul Meyer, and Ralph Meyer; her sisters, Margaret Habeger, Eleanor Brandt, Bernice Guisinger, Luevern Smith and Sybil Neiman.
