Miguel "Mike" O. Abalos Sr. 90, a resident of Hurley, NM went into the arms of our Lord on Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at his residence. He was born to Isabel Ochoa in Deming, NM on October 7, 1919. Mike service honorably in the Naval Armed Guard in WWII. He married his beloved Carmen in 1941 in Deming, NM. They were married for 66yrs. Mike and his wife retired on the same day from Kennecott Copper with 60yrs service. Mr. Avalos was well known for his service to the youth of Grant County. He was one of the original coaches of Little League. He coached the American Legion teams and the Tigers semi pro teams. His children were brought up with patriotism. Mike and Carmen were very involved in veteran matters. They belonged to the American Legion, VFW and Disabled American Veterans. Mr. Avalos was a proud member of the American Legion Honor Guard. He is survived by his daughter, Arlina Conklin (Dan) of Hurley; three sons, retired Major Rudy Abalos (Carlina) of San Antonio, TX; Richard Abalos (Vickie) of Hurley; Patrick Abalos of Hurley; twenty-three grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren; three brothers, Alfredo Abalos of Nebraska; Johnny Abalos and Edward Abalos (Cecilia) all of Silver City; many nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 yrs, Carmen Abalos ('05); his son, Mike Jr., ('07); his mother, Isabel and step-father, Juan Abalos; sister, Socorro; two brothers, Anastacio and David Abalos. Visitation will be Thursday, January 14th 5-6pm at Terrazas Funeral Chapels with the prayer vigil and holy rosary to begin at 6pm with Deacon Jerry Bustillos reciting. The funeral liturgy will be celebrated on Friday, January 15th at 10:30am at Infant Jesus Catholic Church in Hurley with consolibration of Fathers Robert Becerra and Marcos Reyna. Interment will follow at Fort Bayard National Cemetery will full military honors. Pallbearers will be Iseha and Daniel and Paul Conklin, Ben Acosta, Gabriel, Matthew, Jeramy and Andrew Abalos.
