Bob Abel, 60, died Sunday, January 17, 2010 peacefully, in his home, surrounded by family and friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Abel will be conducted Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Heritage Funeral Home, 609 Bear Creek Pike, with Doug Gauthier officiating. Burial will follow in the Jones Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Tuesday, January 19, 2010 from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Born in Warrior, Alabama, he is the son of the late Margie Abel Davis. He was married to Betty Ann Street Abel, who survives. He was retired from GM (Saturn Corporation) where he excelled in the trade of a tool and die maker. He loved his motorcycles, enjoyed fishing, and was an avid Crimson Tide fan.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three sons, Lonnie (Katherine) Abel of Columbia, TN, Bobby Abel of Louisville, KY, and Tom Cory of Columbia, TN; his two daughters, Tammy Abel and Michelle Abel, both of Columbus, OH; a sister, Linda (Ronnie) Sanderson of Fultondale, AL; seven grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Allie Grace, Noah, Jake, Ryan, Cameron and Aubrey; his niece, Leslie, nephews, Ronnie and Dale, and great-niece, Madison. He was preceded in death by a son, Chris Cory.
Active pallbearers will be Lonnie Abel, Bobby Abel, Tommy Cory, Tommy Elliott, Joe Pipkin, and Ronnie Sanderson. Honorary guests are the members of Fruit of the Vine, and members of The Round Table.
