She was a life member of VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 4849. Bertha enjoyed bingo, crocheting, doing crafts, baking, cooking, camping, gardening, going gambling, and spending time with her loving family.
Survivors include five daughters Geneva (Andrew) Gurule of Antonito, Monica (Pat) Gonzales of Denver, Natalie (Anthony) Gallegos, Carla Abeyta and Tammy (Mario) Barela all of Antonito; sons Joseph Jiron of Denver, Anthony (Verna) Jiron of Antonito, Randy (Linda) Abeyta and Dwayne (Lyndsey) Abeyta both of Antonito; 23 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; sisters Sally Dunn of Camden, Ark, Helen (Michael) Pariso of Long Valley, NJ, and Vangie (Amar) Romero of Albuquerque, NM; brother Phil (Irene) Salazar of Antonito as well as by several nieces, nephews and cousins. Bertha was preceded in death by her parents, son Eric Abeyta, and two brothers Conrad and Victor Salazar.
A vigil service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Tue., Jan. 5, 2010 at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Conejos. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Interment will follow at Los Cerritos Cemetery. Viewing and visitation will be held on Tuesday from 1 until 5 p.m. at Romero Chapel in Antonito who is in care of the arrangements.
