Mrs. Hattie May Westmoreland Merritt, 93, a resident of Priddy Manor in King, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2007, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Mrs. Merritt was born in Stokes County on May 21, 1914, the daughter of the late Augustus Jeremiah and Cecelia Harriet George Westmoreland. She was a member of Red Bank Baptist Church in Germanton. Mrs. Merritt was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Shirley Merritt; and two grandsons, Marc and Kirk Elvy. Surviving are two daughters, Krista Welder and husband Paul of Staunton, Va., and Cecelia Wyatt and husband Malcolm of Annapolis, Md.; three grandchildren, Michelle Elvy, Bee Elvy and Medea Elvy; and two great-grandchildren, Lola Elvy and Jann Heise.
