Former Richardson Resident Passes

A former resident of Richardson county, Mrs. Wm. Abelbeck, 75, died Oct 6 at her home in Byron, Neb., following a lingering illness.

Mrs. Abelbeck, nee Emma Marie Rears, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Rears, was born in Hanover, Germany, Jan. 18, 1875, and came to America with her parents when she was six years old. The family landed in New York June 20, 1881, and later settled on a farm near the Stone church in Nemaha county. They lived there but a short time before moving to a farm 4 1/2 miles west of Stella. Mrs. Abelbeck lived there until her marriage.

Oct. 25, 1894, she was married. The couple moved to Byron and had lived their entire married life in or near Byron.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Abelbeck is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Minnie Cock, Mrs. Ida Kettlehut, Mrs. Rosa Rohrs and Mrs. Ellen Davidson, all of the Byron community; a son, Amel Abelbeck, Byron, a brother Amel Rears, Stell; three sisters, Mrs. John Clobes, Stella, Mrs. John Rausch, Sr., Humboldt, and Mrs. Ida Rears, Hastings. There are eight grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at St. Paul's Lutheran church in Byron in charge of Rev. Paul J. Weltner. Burial was in St. Paul's church cemetery.

Amoung those who attended the funeral were: Mrs. John Rausch, Sr., Mrs. Harry Schuetz, Mr. and Mrs. John Rausch, Jr., Albert Rausch and Mrs. Oma Babcock, all of Humboldt; Mr. and Mrs. Amel Rears, Mr. and Mrs. Don Rears, Mrs. John Clobes and Mrs. Clifton Harshbarger, all of Stella; Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Kuhlman and daughter, Amy Marie, Table Rock, and Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Kuhlman, Elk Creek.

Emma Marie Rears, daughter of Henry and Anna Lindemann Rears, was born January 18, 1875 in Schwalligen, province of Hanover, Germany, and died October 6, 1949, at her home in Byron, Neb., at the age of 74 years, 8 months and 22 days.


She received the sacrament of holy baptism soon after her birth at the church of New Kirchen. At the age of six years she came with her parents to Nemaha county (sic), Nebraska. She was confirmed in the Old Stone church (sic), receiving her first Communion.


In the same church she was united in marriage to William Abelbeck of Byron, Neb., on October 24, 1874 (sic). Following their marriage they settled on a farm near Byron. Their marriage was blessed with six children. One son, Albert, preceded his mother in death at the age of two years.


Mr. and Mrs. Abelbeck had the privilege of celebrating their golden wedding anniversary nearly five years ago.


Surviving her are her husband; four daughters, Minnie Koch, Ida Kettlehut, Rose Rohrs and Ellen Davidson; one son, Emil; eight grandchildren, three sisters and one brother.


Funeral services were held at St. Paul's Lutheran church (sic) at Byron with the Rev. P.J. Weltner in charge. Interment was made in the parish cemetery.
