Victor "Vic" Bernard Abate, 61, of Lumberton, TX died Sunday, February 7th, 2010 in a Texas hospital. Mr. Abate was a native of Lake Charles, having lived thirty five years in Lake Charles before moving to Texas. He attended Marion High School. When in Lake Charles, he worked primarily in the Construction Industry and was a member of Local 207 and the American Legion Post #1. Mr. Abate has lived the past 26 years in Texas the last eighteen being in Lumberton. He worked as a car salesman in Texas. Mr. Abate enjoyed playing cards, watching football and being a grandfather. His greatest times were shared with his grandchildren. He will be most remembered as the life of the party! He leaves to honor his memory, his loving wife of 38 years, Donita "Dee" Reeves Abate of Lumberton, TX; three sons, Chansey Abate and wife Elizabeth of Evadale TX, Troy Abate and wife Jennifer of Lumberton, TX and Jeremy Abate and wife Chimele of San Antonio, TX; six grandchildren, Ryan Johnson and wife Shara of Evadale, TX, Kelsey Johnson and Hunter Abate of Evadale, TX, Austin Abate and Alexis Abate of Lumberton, TX and Cole Abate of San Antonio, TX; one brother, Roy Abate of Morse, LA and a sister, Elizabeth Jean Foster of Lake Charles. He also leaves a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Lucille Abate and sister, Gloria Abate. Funeral services will be at 12:00 PM Wednesday, February 10, 2010 in the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel. Brother James Rider will officiate. Interment will follow in Creel Cemetery in Bel, LA. Visitation Tuesday will be from 3:00 PM until 10:00 PM with a rosary beginning at 6:00 PM. Visitation Wednesday will be from 8:00 AM until the time of service in the funeral home.
